Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye Elevated to the Dignity of the Olympic Order
Senegal was honored in Paris on Saturday, August 10, 2024, during the closing of the 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), through our compatriot Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye. A member of the IOC since 2015, President Diagna Ndiaye was awarded the prestigious Olympic Order in Silver, in recognition of his outstanding services to the cause of sport and Olympism.
IOC President Thomas Bach, presenting the award, praised the eminent IOC member who has always served the sport with passion, dedication, and, above all, selflessness. He also expressed his strong belief in the success of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), with the renewed commitment of the President of the Republic of Senegal and under the leadership of President Diagna Ndiaye.
Unanimously, the members present at the session applauded the remarkable work being done by the YOG Organizing Committee towards 2026.
Addressing the session participants, President Diagna Ndiaye stated, "Living one's passion is, in itself, a privilege for which I will forever be indebted to the IOC. To live it at the pinnacle of Olympism and be rewarded for it is a magical moment, which I welcome with great pride. This distinction reflects on the entire Olympic Committee team."
The Olympic Order is the highest honor for IOC members who have significantly contributed to the advancement of sport worldwide.
